Help people stay mindful at home and in NYC with a meditation app on the iPhone.

We worked with the Inscape team to bring their meditation app to the next level. After redesigning the app’s user experience, rewriting the back-end code, and building a fully custom recommendation engine, the Inscape app launched along with their Manhattan meditation studio.

Breathe in, breathe out

Inscape was eager to offer a unique, accessible, and intuitive app for meditators on the go. The app was set to launch along with their physical meditation studio in the Flatiron district of Manhattan.

Meditative by design

Our first step was to dig into the existing state of affairs. We mapped the Inscape team’s priorities to the ideal user experience, working through a series of designs and prototypes. Once we had redesigned the user experience, the Postlight engineering team rewrote the app’s back-end and implemented new visuals in partnership with the Inscape design team.

Adaptive mindfulness

The Inscape app doesn’t just play through a library of audio files; it uses a custom-built recommendation engine. Based on the user’s preferences and behavior within the app, recommendation logic suggests one main Inscape meditation each day. Smart local background caching makes audio available to users quicker, since Inscape meditations download automatically in the background. The Inscape app also integrates with Apple’s HealthKit so that users can track minutes of mindfulness.

Since launch, Inscape has been covered by Vogue, New York Magazine, FastCo Design, and more.
